What

What We Do

The studio offers a comprehensive assessment and overview of every artwork that we see to ascertain a full understanding of the condition and treatment required. This is carried out in consultation with the client, taking time to listen to them and to understand their expectations for their work of art, so that the best results can be obtained. The assessment includes a written condition report outlining the works to be carried out and an estimate of cost, plus a full photographic record if requested.

The studio also regularly advises clients prior to the purchase of art works on their condition and possible beneficial treatments.

Treatments can include tape removal from previous mounting and framing, cleaning to remove discolouration, staining and foxing. Paper repairs to make good tears and infill losses. Lining works to support fragile paper structures and pressing to flatten and remove handling creases.

The studio also has connections with mounters and framers and can advise and arrange the supply of simple acid free mounts or more specialist wash-lines and hand calligraphy. Also frames from plain wooden to hand finished and gilded.

The studio is fully insured, up to £25,000 per single item, we do advise that the client has their own insurance in place for the full value of the artwork or if further insurance is required, we can obtain additional insurance at  a cost per item.
